In the past few years, a lot more games have come out as free-to-play or switched to that model. This is because the model has been successful, and most of the money is made from microtransactions and battle passes. As time goes on and the competition gets even tougher, many once-popular free-to-play games have lost a lot of players and are almost dead.
Kingdom: Classic
Kingdom: Classic is a cozy management game that takes you back to the days when you could play games in your web browser. It’s a 2D side-scrolling game that takes place in a fantasy medieval country and has beautiful pixel art.
As king or queen, players must make every coin count as they run through a world that is made by a set of rules. Late in 2017, there were a lot of people playing at once, but now there are only about a hundred.
Splitgate
There are already a lot of great free-to-play games out there, so any new ones need to offer something different to draw people in. This was made possible by the use of gates in Splitgate, which are similar to those in the famous Portal series.
With portals, players can sneak up on enemies from the side and fly high over the map. Unfortunately, Splitgate’s heights were soon cut short, and not many people play it anymore.
Bless Unleashed
Bless Unleashed is an MMORPG that started out on platforms but quickly moved to PC. Even though Bless Unleashed was famous for a few months after it came out, the number of people who played it soon went down.
Even though the game doesn’t have too many problems, there are a lot of great MMORPGs out there, and Bless Unleashed doesn’t seem to have brought anything new to the table.
Realm Royale Reforged
Realm Royale was one of many great battle royale games that came out after the genre became popular. It’s a third-person shooter like Fortnite, but the images are fun and cartoony. But it is not the same as the giant in many ways.
For example, players can choose from a variety of classes, such as mage, hunter, fighter, assassin, and engineer. Each class has its own way of playing the game. The game also has a magical medieval look, and players can ride mounts to get around. But Realm Royale Reforged is almost dead now, even though it was once famous.
Z1 Battle Royale
Z1 Battle Royale, which used to be called H1Z1, is thought to be the first real battle royale game. It started out as a king of the hill mode for H1Z1. It was very popular for a long time, but games like PUBG: Battlegrounds and Fortnite made it less popular.
The game looked like it was going to die soon, but a new management team is trying to bring it back to its basic roots, and some old players are coming back. Like any update of a video game, though, only time will tell if Z1 Battle Royale can live up to its old reputation.
MultiVersus
When it came out in July 2022, MultiVersus was a big deal in the game world because it had such a great cast of characters from different worlds. In this fighting game, you can play as LeBron James, Batman, Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, Bugs Bunny, and a lot of other strange heroes.
Even though there were special stages, this wasn’t enough to keep players interested, and since then, MultiVersus has lost a huge number of players.
Dota Underlords
Dota Underlords is an auto-battler game, which is similar to auto-chess. It uses characters and ideas from Dota 2 to make the game. Drift Boss, which was based on a community mode for Dota 2, had a lot of players when it first came out, but people soon stopped playing.
One reason Dota Underlords is almost dead is that it can’t compete with the size and popularity of League of Legends’ Teamfight Tactics, which is a similar game. TFT is much more complicated, so players will need more advanced tips.
